Room 17

Creating something that moves

Our challenge was to make something that would travel one metre using :- card, two feathers, two straws, two large and two small popsicle sticks, two rubber bands and a balloon. We wanted our creations to move with their own power but some of us had to use wind power.

Everyone worked really hard

It isn't easy blowing up a balloon

We had fun making our moving objects

We tried once again but didn't catch any cockroaches.

We set our traps with cat biscuits on Thursday (thank you for the biscuits Elise) and wondered what would happen.
Friday came and we all went to see what had happened overnight. Would we find millions of trapped cockroaches? Actually no!
We did manage to find a dead one on this trap. We are not sure how it managed to die though.

Thanks Mrs Yates for loaning us your room to test our traps.

Thanks for the chocolate Gerald, here is the successful trap maker receiving his prize.

But you can’t stop room 17, we will modify our traps once more and set the traps once again so look out cockroaches.
“We’ll be back”.

We are transforming boxes, bottles and many other items into
“Cockroach Traps”.

Our designs begin to come together.

We had to think carefully while we were working.

It was interesting creating the cockroach trap from our designs. We found we needed to make some modifications to our original ideas. Here are the finished designs.

Room 17 children love their Activboard, they use it for many different things.

We use our IWB at reading times.

The children take charge when we visit the Brainpop site.

What a terrific time we had at Corban Estate Art Centre.
The children produced some really exciting pieces of clay art.

Just wait until you see what we have in store for you next time!!

The cockroach traps look fantastic. I really like Hannah’s. Can they have food put inside them and tested in the classroom over night-how about a prize for who can catch one. I will give a prize to the first cockroach catcher!

Wow! The Corban Estate Art Centre looks like lots of fun. We are in Perth, West Australia and so love seeing what you are all doing. I must try your cockroach traps and see if they catch the enormous Australian cockroaches!
